Walking
I walk through the forest
Pine needles under my feet
Sending resin-scented moments
Into the sky above us
I walk on the beach
The tide tickling my toes with its
Invigorating chill, I
Place my hands in the water and
Feel it flow through my fingers like some
Song of youth that I
Only remembered to forget again
I walk on the path of life
Childhood evolving into adolescence
Adolescence evolving into adulthood
I remember distant Christmas moments
Wine beside the fire
And the excitement of presents
I remember the pain of school as the
Bullies twisted the knife
I walk through the streets of London
Cider-stained moments and the
Vacant stare of the
Lost people of the night who
Move through their silent dances
Against the backdrop of the West End
And the lights beckoning us to some
Sanctuary of sorts
The crumpled homeless figure
Silently watching the
Flow of commuters
Moving like some
Human sea of forgetting that
Beats its tune in the
Tube train crush
And the perfidity of rats
We have many lives
Lives painted in the
Tenement block wall graffiti
A prophesy of sorts that
Speaks of a thousand journeys through the
Elixir of oblivion granted by
Cheap Vodka and the
Snarl of traffic
I walk the forest
And I walk the streets
Seeking the process through which I
Come to be
I walk as a million different people
I walk through joy and pain
I walk through the Rosetta Stone of our birthing
When the universe breathed us into existence
I walk through the desert that
Fills our cups with sand
I walk through beginnings and endings
I walk just to be..
